Up to the minute Trade Deadline updates

We are now 8 weeks into the 2020 season and have already seen some player movement but not as many trades as I had expected yet. I wanted to take a look at some players likely to be on the trade block before the deadline. But first the men already changing zip codes:

Yannick Ngakue was traded twice already this season. First he escaped Jacksonville where he landed in Minnesota. He had racked up 5 sacks in 6 games with Minnesota but now heads to Baltimore his hometown and preferred destination from the beginning of his search for a trade. This time the Ravens part with a 2021 3rd round pick and a conditional 5th round pick in exchange for a 10 game rental to see if Ngakue is the missing piece of this Raven's defense. It also means the Vikings essentially traded down from the 2nd round to the 3rd round for a 6 week rental of Ngakue.

Carlos Dunlap formerly a disgruntled Cincinnati Bengal just hit the jack pot. Seattle decided to acquire his services in exchange for OL B.J. Finney, and a 2021 7th round pick. Dunlap is expected to fill the pass rushing role they had hoped Clowney would still be playing. Instead they bring in a highly decorated and very consistent pass rusher. Dunlap has logged 7.5 or more sacks in every season since 2012. During his career he has knocked down 60 passes, forced 20 fumbles, recovered 9, intercepted 1 pass, logged 82.5 sacks, and 474 tackles. Finney on the other hand is a guy who could wind up eventually starting for the Bengals at center after they have lost faith in former first rounder Billy Price.

Another rumor that came to fruition before I could even speak on it was the Cowboys moving on from Everson Griffen after just 6 games. He has been traded to Detroit for a conditional 6th round pick. I guess this makes sense if you weren't happy with his production but it makes me wonder what they expected when they signed the 32 year old DE that has had his struggles with injuries and mental health. Alas it no longer matters as now he will join Detroit as a mentor to Romeo Okwara a guy who has emerged as a potential star at the position racking up 4 sacks so far. This season after putting up 7.5 in 2018. With Trey Flowers, Everson Griffen, Okwara on the outside with Danny Shelton, and Nick Williams who produced 6 sacks just last year. This is a solid foundation to build on if Patricia can string together some wins and keep his job in 2021. Adding Griffen is a low risk high reward situation.

Kwon Alexander is a starting caliber linebacker who, prior to a 2019 injury, had been an extremely productive player for the 49ers, and Redskins. In this trade the Saints presumably expect Alexander to provide an upgrade over another former stand out player Kiko Alonso. The Saints also gave up a 5th round pick. Alexander's value comes in his versatility. In a 3-4 he typically plays an ILB role while in a 4-3 he is an outside linebacker he has shown an ability to cover tight ends and running backs efficiently enough to be a 3 down linebacker while also demonstrating his chops in pass rushing many times. I really like this move. The Saints are quickly realizing that Brees has begun declining physically and they need to maximize their ability to give him a supporting cast that can at times carry him to wins instead of vice versa.

Avery Williamson was yet another player caught in the Jets fire sale on anyone with value. However he couldn't have asked for a better landing spot. He goes to the last undefeated team, the Steelers with a 7th round pick in exchange for a 5th round pick. Williamson will be tasked with stepping into the shoes of Devin White who was lost for the season 2 weeks ago. Williamson has a real opportunity to latch on with a great defense should he play well. Vince William's will be on the last year of his deal in 2021, and at 31 years old might not be resigned. Williamson is better in coverage, and still provides a presence in the pass rush when needed. I wouldn't be shocked to see a contract extension at some point.

Steve Mclendon formerly of the Jets also found greener pastures, in Tampa Bay with what is starting to look like a dream team of future hall of fame players. All it cost them was a trade down from the 6th round into the 7th. Way too cheap for the role he can and will play for Tampa. This might also be the most ideal landing spot for him reuniting him with his former Jet's head coach Todd Bowles. With Vita Vea out for the season McLendon will play nose tackle, the rest of this season but I could see him unseating William Gholston at end when Vea returns.

Another former Jet DL/LB Jordan Louis who was drafted in the 3rd round in 2017 was a combine darling who wowed scouts with his athleticism. At the time he measured in at just under 6'4, 255 lbs with an 80 inch wingspan. He went on to run a 4.53 40 yard dash incredibly fast for a LB, he showed explosion with 39 inch vertical jump, and 124 inch broad jump, as well as strength putting up 24 reps in the bench press. His combine results compare to most tight ends you would see in the NFL making him an ideal candidate to play OLB. However over time it became apparent that with some more weight on his frame his athletic ability would be ideal for a defensive end. So Willis added about 15 lbs to his frame and began focusing on playing defensive end, and now he comes to the 49ers that play a wide 9 front that should in theory suit his talents perfectly. Robert Saleh seems to think we might see a break out performance from Willis in this defense.

Desmond King moving east to Tennessee. Bye bye Cali, hello Memphis. Desmond King was a solid slot cornerback and punt returner for the Chargers and now comes to a Titans defense that let Logan Ryan slot cornerback extraordinaire walk in free agency only to watch Kristian Fulton, and Addoree Jackson both get hurt. King will step in as the starter in the nickel, while potentially replacing Jackson in the return game.

Arizona Cardinals trade for OLB Markus Golden reacquiring a player who left just over a season ago in free agency. Golden produced 19 sacks in 46 games for the Cardinals, but went on to put up 10 last season with the Giants, through 7 games he had just 1.5 sacks but the Cardinals needed to add depth to their pass rush after losing Chandler Jones to injury. Golden is another rental player who will likely looking for a dramatic raise in 2021 after seeking $10 million this offseason.

Kamalei Correa was unhappy with the titans and asked for a trade which he would later receive...to the Jaguars. Not sure if that's exactly a desired destination given the state of each franchise. However he did step into a larger role on the field which is what he wanted to begin with. The 5th year player was acquired for a 6th round pick, while the Jags received a 7th rounder in return. Correa has essentially served a sort of hybrid role playing as a depth player at LB, and in the pass rush.

Patriots took to the trade market to help add weapons for Cam Newton however they didn't acquire one of the bigger named players on the market. Instead they targeted innerdivision receiver Isaiah Ford formerly of the Dolphins. At 6'2 201 lbs Ford is a similar body type to Mohammed Sanu who was released earlier this year. However Ford is only 24 years old, and has a very limited resume. Through 3 seasons in the league he has played in just 16 games. However during that stretch he has produced 41 receptions, for 428 yards, adding 1 carry for 11 yards, and 1 kick return for 6 yards. He is a low cost high upside player who could play a pivotal role in New England with other more prominent players currently injured.

The Dolphins traded away a player at WR, potentially to clear up playing time for a couple players only to add a running back to further complicate their 4 headed backfield. DeAndre Washington is a candidate to play a 3rd down pass catching role. He has played large roles at time and could be online for a big role in Miami.

Projected trade candidates:
First person on this list is a guy I think deserves to be traded. That's Tyrod Taylor. He began the 2020 season as the starter of the Chargers before breaking ribs. Due to his broken ribs he needed to receive routine pain injections. However these injections turned out to be anything but routine for Taylor whose team doctor managed to puncture Taylor's lung in the process. Due to this Taylor has since lost his starting job to Justin Herbert long term. Taylor is an unrestricted free agent in 2021, and the Chargers can bet he will never want to return to this team, so why not ship him out while you can get something in return? The question is who would be interested? How about two teams tied very closely to Gary Kubiak? The Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. First off it's pretty clear why Denver would want to add Taylor being that they have 4 qbs on the roster. 3 of them have seen the field and the other is Blake Bortles. Instead why not trade for Taylor? Ship them a 6th round pick and qb Jeff Driskel in return. They get a veteran backup to replace their disgruntled veteran, and add a draft pick in 2021. Denver adds a guy who can start until Lock is healthy. Minnesota isn't hurting for a qb, but Cousins also has just one qb on the roster behind him in Sean Mannion. The Vikings tend to find a backup qb and hang on to them for years, and I believe Taylor could be the next qb to make a home there. Maybe shipping Taylor to a team that needs a QB immediately helps them avoid a lawsuit.

Kenny Stills, acquired in the Laremy Tunsil trade, is a 28 year old 8 year veteran receiver who is making $7 million a year to play the 4th WR role in an offense that also has Brandin Cooks, Will Fuller, and Randall Cobb. He has played sparingly this year leading to dramatically reduced stats but this is a guy who once played with Drew Brees and the Saints where he managed over 900 yards his second season in the league. Stills has played for New Orleans, Miami, and Houston each time being traded to his new destination. Why not continue that trend? Stills has a lot of football in the tank he hasn't even hit 30 yet and has barely played this season, but who is looking for a receiver that would be willing to take on his salary? How about Green Bay? Through 4 games they have exactly zero players who have caught 20 passes. So why not import a veteran running mate for Davante Adam's? Stills could likely be had for no more than a 5th round pick. He also may not be the only Texans player available at the position.

I could see Houston moving on from Brandin Cooks if someone offered them a second round pick in 2021, he has led the team in receptions to this point cementing his worth. Randall Cobb could be available for as little as a 5th as well. An aging slot receiver is only so valuable if he isn't consistently putting up big numbers.

How about a JJ Watt trade? Watt was the man who reportedly helped run Head coach/GM O'Brien out of town, which could be viewed as a scary proposition for ownership. Watt is in his 10th season at 31 years old he is dominant when he can finish a full season but in 10 seasons he has does this just 6 times. Five of those six times he managed 10.5 or more sacks, four of which topped 16 sacks. However in his last 4 seasons he has played 16 games once. He missed 13 games in 2016, 11 games in 2017, and 8 in 2019. It remains to be seen if he can stay healthy this year and still have an impact. Which is exactly why a player like him can be scary, he is an aging, often injured player who arguably can't be relied on as a starter full time at this point but has so much pull that he can ultimately help fire a head coach? This man costs them over $15 million a year currently but hasn't produced at that level in 2 years. Why not move on now during an obvious rebuilding year when Watt still has name value across the league? I would expect certain teams to offer as high as a 4th round pick which would result in a savings of over $17 million in 2021. I doubt it will happen but I would love to see Watt finish his career in Pittsburgh with his brothers Derek and TJ. The Steelers however are undefeated and have produced 26 sacks in 7 games due to solid line play from Alualu, Heyward, and Tuitt. Watt is simply too expensive to take a back seat to Tuitt or Heyward and doesnt really play nose tackle.

The Eagles have had the top tight end tandem in the league since drafting Dallas Goedert. However they are now at an impasse, their starter Zach Ertz is seeking a new contract with the Eagles but the team has quite literally negative cap space heading into 2021. Goedert is younger, and perhaps less established but should ultimately be cheaper to sign to a new deal in 2021. Ertz is likely to be a trade candidate this offseason so why not start those talks now? I truly think Arizona is the place for him. They have never had a tight end like him and adding him to an offense with Hopkins, Fitzgerald, and Kirk would make this offense unstoppable. Ertz should fetch a 2nd round pick in return a pick that could be extremely valuable in what could amount to a rebuilding year for the Eagles.

Another veteran who could be on the trade block due to the cap situation is Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery is a starting caliber receiver that still stands 6'3 215 lbs but has been recovering from an injury since last season. He is expensive, but experienced and has been a true number 1 receiver when healthy but he has also worn out his welcome in Philadelphia. I could see Jeffery recouping a 4th round pick from the right team.

As much as it pains me to say this the Eagles may choose to move on from one of two veteran defensive linemen in Fletcher Cox, or Brandon Graham. I am leaning toward Cox being the odd man out for several reasons. First of all I do not expect Derek Barnett to be resigned which will leave one starting end role upfront grabs, which is okay they do have Josh Sweat, Vinny Curry, Gerard Avery, and Casey Toohill to fill his shoes but are there are really two starters in that group? I don't think so personally. Which leads me to the flip side of that coin, everyone knows about our immense depth at DT. With Cox, Javon Hargrave, Malik Jackson, and Hassaan Ridgeway the Eagles truly have 3 surefire can't miss starters and a solid rotational player behind them. Cox also carries a $22.5 million cap hit in 2021. That's a pretty big chunk of the salary cap space Philly needs to clear up however they have to find a trade partner to make it worth their while to shed the cap space.

How about Cam Newton? This would arguably be the biggest shocker of them all but think about the logic. Patriots sign Newton to veteran minimum contract, let him start for 7 weeks until he rehabs his image and puts up solid stats then boom sell high on his value. I admit the far more likely scenario would be the Patriots signing him to a multiyear deal to retain him but crazier things have happened. If the Pat's could get a first or second round pick in return for Newton they would trade him in a heartbeat. How about a double shocker, Sean Payton offers up his first round pick in 2021, and Jameis Winston in return for Cam Newton. This move may not be that crazy, Payton isthe coach who developed a role for Taysom Hill a former undrafted free agent. Imagine an offense that now features Newton as the starter, with Hill as the top backup in 2021. Could make for a really interesting storyline. Going from being Tom Brady's successor in New England to Drew Brees' successor in New Orleans all in one season.

Mitchell Trubisky is likely to be the subject of trade talks in 2020 before the deadline after Nick Foles took over. Trubisky has a couple things going for him, he is young, talented, and his image isn't terrible outside of Chicago. He's simply another failed first round qb that could use a fresh start elsewhere. I could see a few teams making a move for him. Jacksonville would make sense, they got rid of Nick Foles and his giant contract and have started Minshew since then. So far he has led the team to a 1-5 record despite solid play. He has completed 67.5% of passes, for over 1,600 yards and 11 tds and 5 ints. Adding 100 yards and 1 td on the ground. He has been good but not great the perfect situation to bring in Trubisky as a backup behind Minshew. Roll with him for one more year, with Trubisky as silent pressure to succeed, or better yet how about the Chiefs? They could add Trubisky as a low risk high reward backup to Patrick MaHomes. Worst case he never see's the field and plays out his rookie deal as a backup to Mahomes under Andy Reid, and Eric Bienemy. Best case he starts some games plays well and nets them a higher draft pick in return. I could see a 5th or 6th round pick in return.

For whatever reason Cincy saw it fit to franchise tag Aj Green despite a rookie qb, and struggling team. They decided to pay Green $18 million for the 2020 season, but where does he lie in the team's long term plans? Green is 32 years old, with 10 years under his belt. He has had several nagging injuries, and missed all of 2019. All told he has missed 33 games. He is seemingly never healthy. This season up until this weekend's game he had caught 14 passes in 5 games. When you pay $18 million to a player you expect better than 3 catches per game. Then came the Colts game where Burrow and Green connected on 8 passes for 96 yards. This would be the time to start shopping him elsewhere. The Bengals drafted his successor in Tee Higgins this offseason who has truly already taken his role. Higgins is coming off of a 6 reception 125 yard game bringing his season total to 22 receptions for 339 yards and 2 tds. Trade Green to a team that can use his services. Maybe that is the Jets who need a veteran wide receiver, maybe that's Las Vegas. Regardless it's time for a divorce, the Bengals need to be prepared to accept a 4th round pick in return. But with talented younger players like Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Auden Tate ready to lead the way it's time to move on from an overpriced vet with nearly constant injury issues.

Giovanni Bernard is a 5'9 205 lb receiving back for the Bengals who have a rather accomplished dual threat back ahead of him in former 2nd round pick Joe Mixon. Bernard has become an after thought in the run game, and has even seen less looks in the passing game this year. Bernard is only 28 years old and not that far removed from putting up consistent 800+ yard seasons for Cincy. Bernard needs to be shipped to another team that can appreciate his talents in a larger role. Perhaps the Giants? While the Giants currently employ former Patriot Dion Lewis in a similar role, his role in the offense has been minimal through 6 games with just 13 carries for 31 yards, and 10 receptions for 65 yards. Bernard could be the player to replicate James White for Joe Judge, the player he hoped Lewis could be. 5he risk here for the Giants is minimal. Ship them a 5th round pick in exchange for Bernard and hope he returns to his pre2018 form. This would also pave the way for the Bengals to carve out a role for former 6th round pick Trayveon Williams who has a similar stature and skill set to Bernard but has yet to log a single stat since being drafted last season.

In Tampa Bay it would seem they have a wealth of tight ends even after the injury to Oj Howard they have Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate, so why not recoup that 4th round pick you shipped to New England by shipping out Cameron Brate. Gronk has overshadowed both Howard and Brate all year long in terms of receptions, and has a connection with Brady that takes years to build. Brate has caught just 7 passes for 50 yards in 6 games. It wasn't until the injury to Howard that Brate even caught a pass. Now through the last 3 games he has 7 receptions, including 5 catch 44 yard game a week ago. Why not sell high on a seldom used player who isn't far removed from a 48 reception season? By high I expect no more than a 4th round pick. Maybe a team like Arizona takes a shot at him if they decide not to swing for the fences with Ertz in light of his injury. Maybe the Patriots take Brate off of their hands to help coach up their rookies at the position.

49ers qb Jimmy Garappollo has not played anywhere near his expectations after signing a contract north of $100 million. He has watched as backups Nick Mullens and Cj Beathard have played in his place due to injuries or ineffectiveness. However Jimmy G is approaching a critical point in his contract. Next season his dead money drops from over $19 million this year to just $2.8 million in 2021. This may lead the team to wait until the new league year to trade him but trading him sooner may be the smarter move value wise. The closer to the draft you get the more teams will hold out instead looking to the draft for a qb.

It was reported that John Ross requested a trade from his Cincinnati Bengals. Ross has had dealt with several injuries that hindered his production right away. In 2018 he finally broke out catching 21 passes for 210 yards and 7 tds. 1 out of every 3 receptions this man scored. Bengals fans were thrilled they thought he finally had something to build off of heading into his 3rd season, typically the year young receivers finally catch their stride and begin to produce consistently. Fast forward to 2019 and Ross played in just 8 games catching 28 passes for 506 yards and 3 tds averaging 18.1 yards per reception cementing his status as a deep threat. Ross is the type of player that would see touches in the passing game, and run game due to his speed. However one thing that didn't make sense was the lack of touches in the return game. A guy with a 4.22 40 yard dash needs touches that get him in open field. Kick returns and punt returns would be the best way for him to get these touches. Give him something to build confidence instead he has never seen the field. In 2020 Cincinnati drafted Tee Higgins, franchise tagged Aj Green, and retained Auden Tate, and Tyler Boyd. Burying Ross on the depth chart as the 5th option. He needs new scenery I could see him landing in Green Bay, Seattle, or New England. 6th round pick about the most they can expect in return.

Marvin Jones is headed to unrestricted free agency in 2021. The Lions have all but shown they're not contenders this season. They may as well recoup a draft pick for an asset that still holds value. Jones is 30 years old and a 9 year veteran having posted 5 seasons with 700+ yards. At 6'2 198 lbs he isn't a physically intimidating receiver but he is essentially your quintessential number 2 receiver. There is a possibility the Detroit decides to keep Jones. He has been a solid contributor for them, but should a team offer a 3rd round pick in return for his services they will have a hard time turning it down. I could see a couple teams making a move for him. The Colts, Dolphins, Packers or Chiefs. A WR swap might make sense for the Lions and Chiefs. The Chiefs resigned Damarcus Robinson this offseason but he hasn't had the impact this season they had hoped. They still have Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman but none of those guys are bigger bodied receivers. Robinson is supposed to be that guy at 6'1 203 lbs. This would be a situation where Jones heads to the Chiefs as a kind of 3rd option ahead of Hardman, but kind of splitting time with Watkins as the second receiver. Detroit would receive Robinson, and a 2021 6th round pick. Robinson is a younger and cheaper option short term than Jones, and they gain a draft pick in return.

The Washington football team, has one thing going for them on their roster they have two of the most promising young pass rushers in the league. They have drafted Montez Sweat, and Chase Young in recent seasons, as well as adding guys like Jonathon Allen, and Daron Payne along the way. That's why Ryan Kerrigan has become expendable heading into 2021. The Washington Football Team can trade Kerrigan for a conditional 4th or 5th round pick from the right team. A team like Houston that could use a boost to their pass rush could stand to add him to their linebacker position.

Vic Beasley has had a really odd start to his Titans career, he was absent, without giving the team any info as to why during a team when players were still deciding whether or not to opt out of the season. There was speculation as to why he was absent but ultimately he returned. He was however immediately placed on the NFI list and would end up missing the first 1/4 of the season due to a knee injury. So far through 6 weeks the man they are paying $9 million this season, even after his $500,000 fine from missing training camp, has logged exactly 1 tackle. Not exactly fly what the Titans expected from a guy they signed to a 1 year deal. That's where another team can swoop in and add an accomplished pass rusher for cheap being that it is likely he will not resign in Tennesee. Maybe this looks like a player for player swap, or perhaps they find a team willing to give up a 4th round pick but that's best case scenario. This is a guy who has produced, but has also had his passion and dedication questioned, showed up 10 days late to an already shortened training camp and went on to produce nothing for said team. I think Houston, New England, and possibly Seattle could look his way. New England would be an ideal landing spot as they would truly test his resolve as an NFL player.

The Colts are one of those franchises that truly value their backup quarterbacks. They suffered through the worst of what can happen when you don't invest at the position. They have also watched as two star qbs were seriously injured starting for their team. Since then Jacoby Brissett has kind of emerged as their perfect man for the job. After being added via trade in just his second season despite having been drafted in the 3rd round. He came to the Colts as the defacto third string qb behind Andrew Luck who had been injured, and Scott Tolzien who had just been promoted. Tolzien held Brissett off as the Colts qb for 3 whole quarters. Brissett went on to start 15 games for the Colts. He completed over 60% of his passes, threw 13 tds, to 7 ints, and added 260 yards and 4 tds on the ground. Cementing himself as Luck's understudy going forward. In 2018 Brissett spent the entire season on the bench as Luck started all 16 games. Heading into 2019 just weeks before the season Luck retired and Brissett again took over. He again completed over 60% of his passes this time putting up more yards, more tds, less ints, adding 228 yards and 4 tds on the ground as well. A really solid season, however the Colts decided to turn to Phillip Rivers as their new starter in 2020 on a 1 year deal. Rivers has since led the Colts to a 4-2 record and a division south lead. Brissett meanwhile is riding the bench and soaking up any reps rookie Jacob Eason would get in practice. Although there is a silver lining for Brissett. This season sitting behind Rivers will be his 3rd elite qb he gets to watch up close, he has worked with noted qb coaches Frank Reich, and Josh McDaniels. All only sharpening his mental game and making him that much more valuable as a qb. There are only a couple teams I could see trading for him. Chicago, Jacksonville, or the Jets. All three franchises are led by qbs that are from cemented in their jobs and all 3 teams will look to draft a qb in all likelihood. Brissett is a perfect bridge qb to your future of the franchise.

Tight end David Njoku requested a trade way back in the offseason after the Browns signed Austin Hooper and drafted a tight end. Njoku is under team control for 2021 after the Browns decided to approve his 5th year option. Njoku currently has just 8 receptions, 91 yards and 2 tds in his last 7 games spread across 2019 and 2020. Clearly when he is healthy and touches the ball he is productive however his health and blocking are the questions not his ability as a receiver. Njoku is bound to leave Cleveland after 2021 so recouping an assetnotw makes sense. Philadelphia will be looking for another tight end. After injuries to their top two tight ends and trade speculation surrounding their starter adding a cheaper, younger and more athletic version would be a way to still run threatening two tight end sets in 2020 and 2021 after the position group gets healthy. Some have reported the cost as low as a 6th round pick. The Eagles value tight ends more than most teams and a scenario where they shed cap space, and get draft picks in return while gaining a solid number 2 tight end in the process.

A lot of people have speculated that Odell Beckham Jr. is on the trade block but I would be surprised to see him traded this year. There are several factors for this. First of all the Browns acquired ODB just a season and a half ago. Since then in 22 games he has been targeted 175 times, resulting in 97 receptions, 1,354 yards, 7 tds. While they may want to see more tds the fact is he produces consistently. You can count him year in and year out to total over 1,000 yards, score multiple tds, and catch anywhere from 70-100 passes. Perfect to pair with a young qb. The next and most important reason is that he is still on the books for $14 million in dead cap or essentially his entire base salary for this season. You will be paying him either way may as well get the production yourself. Lastly the Browns simply have to wait out the next 10 weeks before there is no more dead money in his contract creating a perfect opportunity to move on scott free with nothing but draft compensation and 2 solid years of production to show for it.

Von Miller is also a name I have heard several people toss around because of the seemingly diminished impact he has on the Broncos and after his most recent injury. I however disagree with this thought process. Good business is not paying big money to a reliable player, watching him get hurt and then selling him away for pennies on the dollar. That's how teams go from good to okay to terrible really quick especially when that player is a fan and locker room favorite like Miller. The time has come and gone in which I think any team would shell out a first round pick without evidence he was healthy. If you get anything less it's not worth the trade. Keeping him around even just as a mentor to Chubb is worth the money and

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been benched in Washington, first for Kyle Allen, then for Alex Smith. Both guys are veterans and provide more stable presence under center however Haskins hasn't really been given a good chance for success. He is in just his second season having played in a total of 13 games. During that stretch he was on a team hampered by injuries early and often. He never got to play with Trent Williams before he was traded, Derrius Guice blew out his knee twice before being cut, Jordan Reed same story. Trey Quinn, Bryce Love, Brandon Schreff, Chase Rouiller, Paul Richardson, and Chris Thompson all missed time last year resulting in a crippled offense. This season he was thrust into a new offense, with a shortened offseason. New faces at RB, TE, LT, and WR. This season Bryce Love, Logan Thomas, Terry McLaurin, Morgan Moses, Steven Sims Jr., Dontrelle Inman, Saahdiq Charles, Marcus Baugh, Wes Schweitzer, and Chase Rouiller. Pretty hard to get a rythem going if you ask me. I believe there are a few destinations that make sense. Dallas could use another qb after injuries to Prescott and Dalton. This could provide Dallas with a backup plan if Dak leaves. Start Dalton for a year, groom Haskins. Another spot that makes sense? Jacksonville under former head coach Jay Gruden. Minshew has played okay but no one knows if he is the future yet. Adding Haskins behind him as a cheap insurance policy is good business. How about the Rams, or Vikings? The Rams are simply looking for a capable backup, who won't demand a lot of cap space, while the Vikings may need an answer at qb long term.

A report has come out that the Eagles have made Will Parks available. This is a move I do not like at all. Parks was signed to a 1 year $1.5 million deal this offseason. He began the year on IR, but has returned to play in the last 2 games racking up tackles. Parks is well known to be a Philadelphia native, and reportedly took less money to return there, however that's not why this move doesn't make sense. Parks is extremely versatile in the mold of Malcolm Jenkins. He can play either safety spot, nickel linebacker, or even inside or outside at cornerback. While the Eagles pass rush has been at its peak this season, the secondary has managed to produce just 2 interceptions in 7 games, allowed qbs to complete nearly 70% of passes, and allowed 12 passing tds. Not ideal, depending on who you ask a player that has been a cause for concern is Jalen Mills. Parks was brought in as a candidate to be a 3rd safety but if your secondary is playing this poorly why not at least give Parks a shot to replace Mills as the starter. Mills can play the 3rd safety role or maybe he should be on the trade block.

Patriots to hold firesale? Word out of Patriots camp is that they will listen to offers on anyone. Stephon Gilmore was already on the trade block, could guys like the McCourty brothers, N'Keal Harry, Julian Edelman, John Simon, Adrian Phillips, Rex Burkhead, Joe Thuney could be guys we see on the move soon. the Patriots seem to still lack a longterm answer at qb, perhaps this is their way of stocking up draft picks to make a run at the top pick?
