Trubisky has played in 33 games under Nagy producing over 63% completion rate, and over 3,000 yards. Putting up 47 tds, and 25 ints while adding 704 rushing yards and 5 tds. Not exactly stats of a bust, but he has not progressed since his first year under Nagy and has each year taken a step backward. In 2020 the Bears brought in Nick Foles as competition, and replaced Trubisky as the starter in week 3. Trubisky played just 1 snap against the Saints and hurt his shoulder leaving the Bears with just Foles on the active roster, and Tyler Bray on the practice squad. Currently the Bears sit 5-3 and in second place in the NFC North but should Foles falter and lose few games the whispers about replacing Nagy in just his 3rd year will persist.
Now who exactly would hold a higher profile and a more accomplished resume than Nagy? Easy, Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is likely going to head into lake duck status with Michigan in 2021 leading to his eventual exit from the team. Meanwhile the team that drafted him into the NFL, is trying to determine of they have the right coach or not over the next 24 games. Harbaugh brings with him an incredible resume of producing just 2 losing seasons in 13 seasons as a college head coach, and exactly zero losing seasons as an NFL head coach. Harbaugh was fired after an 8-8 season in San Francisco only after he had produced 36 wins over his previous 3 seasons combined, ending all 3 with playoff trips. One of which he nearly brought home a Lombardi trophy. He has a career winning percentage over 70% but has avoided other NFL jobs because of his chance to coach his alma matter. However if Harbaugh becomes available I could see a scenario where Chicago is the one place in the NFL he wants to land. In 7 seasons as their quarterback he led them to the playoffs in 4 seasons, producing just 3 losing seasons.
Obviously as I mentioned above Matt Nagy would have to have a disastrous run to finish out the 2021 season for this all to come to fruition but does anyone truly have faith in Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky to lead the Bears to two straight winning records to save Nagy's job?
