Mohammed Sanu released

Well for once it looks like the great Bill Belicheck whiffed on a trade. He gave up a second round pick in exchange for Mohammed Sanu midseason. In exchange he received 8 games, resulting in 26 receptions for 207 yards and 1 td. Which is ironic because if you add in his stats with Atlanta: 33 receptions for 313 yards and 1 td you wind up with; 59 receptions 520 yards, 2 tds. Which realistically isn't far off of his career averages. Which just goes to show you even the Patriots get cocky at times.

Sanu being released does make for an interesting last second free agent. Does he follow Tom Brady to Tampa and sign a short term deal to be the third receiver? Does he return to Atlanta on a similar short term deal simply playing on his familiarity with the system? Does San Francisco and Kyle Shanahan pick him up to help round out their depth chart? The thing is, Sanu is heading into his 9th season in the NFL at just 31 years old. He is still the same 6'2 210 lbs possession receiver he has been since his time in Cincinnati. He is the quintessential number 2 or 3 target for an offense but is overmatched being the top target for a team. Stick him next to a true number 1 and watch him dominate over number 2 CB's all day.

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion Tampa Bay signs him in a matter of a couple days and adds him to their already insanely talented depth chart?
